Sadly, the average orgasm lasts between 10 and 51 seconds. You are not limited to this quick burst of pleasure though! You could orgasm for hours, and experience a heightened state of pleasure. Find out more as we talk about what orgasm actually is.
As I was working on my book, Honest Sex, I wanted to expand on what most people have learned about sex and orgasm. When I was young, I received a very biological education, rather than a sex education. My eighth grade teacher talked about the reproductive organs and showed us how to put a condom on a banana. Every Friday afternoon she told us to keep our pants on. We never talked about asking for what we want, and saying what doesn’t feel good. We did not explore emotional intimacy, consent, or how to know whether someone is a match.
If I’d had a more human- and sex-oriented type of education, it wouldn’t have taken me until my mid twenties to realize how much more pleasurable and connected sex could be. And how expanded orgasm can be.
Did you know that the average orgasm lasts between 10 and 51 seconds? But that it can actually last for hours?
