Show notes
Plant medicines and psychedelics are becoming more commonly discussed and used these days, even legalized in various parts of the world. They can be a highly effective treatment for challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD and a range of addictions.
As someone who is very curious about all potentials for growth and healing, as well as exploring all possible realms of consciousness, I have great respect for these substances. Reverent use with proper guidance can create deep healing and aid in releasing pain, shifting stuckness, expanding perspectives and anchoring peace and well-being.
When used without the correct setting or supports, however, there can be a negative impact. The experience can be too much for a person’s psyche to navigate or integrate.
Today’s Man Alive podcast guest, Jonathan De Potter is the founder of Behold Retreats. He is passionate about creating safe and life-changing plant medicine journeys for people to explore their inner world and discover their truth.
In an experience with plant medicine, Jonathan was directly shown the mindsets and behaviors that were keeping him from reaching his potential. Returning to a corporate setting, Jonathan was surprised to find he was more patient and empathetic, while also being more productive than ever before. This began his in-depth research into the world of plant medicine.
In our conversation we discussed…
- The potential benefits you could experience from plant medicines and psychedelics
- The need for skilled guides and integration if you’re considering an experience like this
- Jonathan’s journey from self focus to empathy, true purpose and a desire to support future generations

Bio:
Jonathan is passionate about raising awareness on the benefits of plant medicine like Ayahuasca and Psilocybin, and its potential to improve well-being and raise consciousness. This led him to launch Behold Retreats in 2020, tailoring memorable plant medicine experiences in a safe, legal, and highly supported setting.
Jonathan has spent most of his career in client service, delivering strategy and transformation programs for clients across Asia-Pacific, worked with Accenture, and managed for the boutique consulting firm Capco.
Jonathan felt that – despite an objectively great life, good friends and career success, something intangible was missing. As a result, Jonathan took a sabbatical year to travel through South America, where he attended his first Ayahuasca plant medicine retreat in Peru.
