Embodiment is one of the most powerful resources a man can tap into, but most men don’t understand what embodiment actually is. Today’s guest is a Navy Seal turned mental health expert, who has tapped into the wisdom of the body for stress-relief and success. He looks at health from a different perspective, incorporating the ancient traditions and philosophies of Africa, India, Europe, and North and South America to support our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

The word “embodiment” has seemed like a Greek word to many of my male clients. “Of course I have a body,” men have said, “how could I not be embodied?”
The confusion around embodiment is common because many people were not taught that the body communicates similarly to the mind, but the communication is nonverbal. As the Western World is very mental, many of us prioritize our mind and intellect, leaving our bodies behind (even though we walk around in them every day).
Embodiment is much more than being athletic, or exercising regularly. It is an awareness and an aliveness of the wisdom of our physicality, emotions and energetics. When we are not aware of our body, we can feel deadness or stagnancy. Others feel it too when they’re around us.
Today’s Man Alive podcast guest, Christopher Maher, was a Navy Seal who learned to push the limits of his body. You could call this embodiment, but after his service, when his body started breaking down, he realized he had been overriding his body’s intelligence. Christopher is the founder of True Body Intelligence and the author of Free For Life: A Navy Seal’s Path to Inner Freedom and Outer Peace. As a survivor of both childhood trauma and the rigorous mental and physical tolls placed on America’s most elite military branch, Christopher fuses a background in Chinese medical practices with a SEAL-style “figure it out yourself” mindset.
In our deep and rich podcast conversation we discussed:
- The sensitivity men naturally possess that makes numbing out seem like a great option
- What’s possible when you remove tension from your physical body
- The 16 channels of Energy — a form of intelligence you already possess
- What to do with the toxicity we currently face and how to be your own battery pack
- Your right to thrive
When you’re done with this one, check out this Man Alive episode on how to be a better lover by embodying your sexual power. Embodiment is a powerful force in your own life and has a strong impact on everyone you interact with.
