Marriages seem to be falling apart at an alarming rate. Some speculate that we are outgrowing marriage, but from 20 years of working with my relationship coaching clients, I see many people have not matured enough to create the emotionally-connected, sexually satisfying relationships we long for. It takes more than date nights and lingerie to keep a relationship connected and passionate.

#148: Conflict Navigation Skills For Connection and Collaboration – Jason Digges
Many people feel unsettled when someone is upset or disappointed with you. But what if, instead of becoming defensive or retreating, you knew how to skillfully turn conflict into powerful connections and collaborations? This podcast gives you powerful and practical tools to strengthen your most important relationships.
Show notes
I imagine there have been a few times in your life when you’ve gotten defensive…
When you’ve felt the need to prove yourself or justify your actions and then said or did something that wasn’t as mature as it could have been? 😉
We’ve all been there!
Most people don’t enjoy conflict. Some of us even avoid it at all cost.
The thing is, when you have the skills to navigate conflict, it doesn’t have to be so awful. It can be a crucible for growth and deepening relationships!
Today’s Man Alive Podcast is with my colleague Jason Digges. Jason is an artist, philosopher, teacher and video producer. His new book Conflict = Energy gives you the theory of Authentic Relating as well as many practical exercises and tools to use in your relationships right away.
In this conversation we discussed:
- How to use conflict as a doorway to more love, intimacy and collaboration
- What you can skillfully do when others point their resentment, disappointment or upset at you
- Practical tools to stay connected when you or your partner has a rush of emotions
- How judgment could be breaking the foundations of trust and passion in your relationship
- What vulnerability actually is and how it can be exciting and powerful for men
Jason and I demo’d one of the practices so you can see the power of asking questions and reflecting what you hear! He also shared simple practices from his book that you can start using. With last week’s podcast with Michael Porcelli, and this week’s podcast, you have the fundamentals of creating healthy, connected relationships! After listening I highly recommend getting Jason’s book.

Have you felt stuck in models of masculinity that don’t feel like you?
The stereotypically masculine roles may not reflect who you are.
And it can be challenging when people and careers reward for these stereotypical behaviors.
So, what then?

Can you become a more confident and powerful leader and lover without leaning on our cultural norms of masculinity?
Today’s guest and host of the podcast Relationship Alive, Neil Sattin, and I, believe you can.
We recorded a special jointly hosted Man Alive episode where we discuss how men can grow without a being stuck in the stereotypes or expectations of what is “manly.”
In this conversation we cover:
- Whether masculine/feminine distinctions are helpful or harmful
- How to move beyond stereotypical masculine norms and find your unique power
- The foundations of creating real intimacy and connection with your partner
- Neil and Shana’s experience supporting men with their truth and desires
- Experiments to create more spark and connection in your romantic relationship
I hope you feel supported to grow in ways that are unique to you, rather than a worn out, empty mold of what a man is “supposed to be.”
